What are Various Skin Problems?

Unhealthy skin results in various skin problems. Unhealthy skin weakens the protection and allows the entry of harmful bacteria. The skin is exposed to the outer environment and so the dirt and germs get clogged in the pores of the skin and causes various skin infections. Skin problems make the skin look unhealthy and dull. Skin problems also reflect the inner condition of the body. Any disorder within the body is shown on the skin. The various skin problems are:

Acne is a skin infection that affects the oil glands of the skin. The small pores in the skin connect to the oil glands under the skin. When the connection from the pore to the oil gland which is called a follicle, is clogged, a pimple is developed on the skin. It may get clogged with a substance which is made in the oil gland called the sebum.

Eczema is also known as atopic dermatitis. It is a long-term disease. The most common symptoms are dry and itchy skin, rashes on the face, inside the elbows, behind the knees, and on the hands and feet. There is no specific test to diagnose eczema and so the doctors rely on the information given by the patient and the signs.

Hives is a skin condition characterized by outbreak of pale or red bumps, which may become itchy and inflamed. Hives is caused due to a reaction of the drug or food. Hives is a common skin problem and it develops in people who already have some kind of skin infection or if they are allergic to some food or drug. Other causes include infections and stress. They disappear on their own but if they don’t, you may need medical help.

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease characterized by patches of thick, red skin with silvery scales. These patches are inflamed, sore and can be itchy. They usually develop on the elbows, knees, other parts of the legs, scalp, lower back, face, palms, and soles of the feet. Psoriasis may also develop in other parts of the body. The doctor usually looks for the skin sample under a microscope. It is difficult to diagnose as it resembles other skin infections. Treatment depends on the condition of the disease, the size, the type of psoriasis, and the reaction of the patients to the given treatment.

Frequent redness on the face, red lines under the skin, inflammation on the skin, swollen nose, red eyes and eyelids, thicker skin, all these are the signs of rosacea. Rosacea is a skin disease and can be detected with the help of physical examination and medical history of the person. This skin disease can be controlled, but cannot be cured.
